Acupuncture originated over 3,000 years ago, having deep roots in Eastern philosophy, the study of nature, and our relationship with the environment. It is the science and art of fine tuning the body and mind in an effort to achieve optimal health and mental well-being. Treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points along pathways in the body (called meridians) in order to regulate organ and body function and reduce the sensation of pain.
Once perceived as unscientific folk medicine, acupuncture today is now seen by the medical community as being a valid, testable, and effective treatment option. The National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) both fund and recognize acupuncture as a valid treatment for a host of conditions. It is even used by the U.S. military to treat pain and post-traumatic stress.
Acupuncture is a top option for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and for preventative care. It can also be used alongside conventional, Western biomedicine. Many patients find it beneficial for everyday stresses, such as sleep disorders, digestive issues, chronic pain, migraines, women’s health, fertility, sports-related injury, and much more.

Acupuncture needles are very thin. The sensation can feel like a tingling or traveling along the channels at the time of needling. Most people do not find the insertion of such fine needles to be painful. In fact, many experience a deep sense of relaxation during treatment.
An initial appointment will generally last 90 minutes. Follow-up visits are about one hour.
We begin by asking you a series of detailed questions about your health and any symptoms you might be experiencing, followed by a physical examination -- pulse, tongue observation, and so on.
We will then apply needles based on our assessment. The needles, once inserted, will be left in place from 20 to 45 minutes.
Prior to your visit, we recommend the following:
Every person and body is different. The number and frequency of treatments will depend on several factors, including your age, health, length and severity of symptoms, and your treatment goals. After your first visit, we will be able to provide you with a treatment plan that is individualized for you. We generally recommend weekly treatments for a few months -- though this is not an absolute rule -- and then we will reassess how often you should receive treatment.
We accept most forms of insurance coverage. Please check with your health insurance company to verify acupuncture benefits. We can also do this for you. Please feel free to get in touch with us with any questions you may have.
